Hey, wow, thanks for believing in me.
Hi! I'm Colin Heck. I work in animation as a storyboard director on Bad Seeds, and previously as a director on The Legend Of Korra. These are some of my drawings and smartass answers to Korra questions.
So, unless I forgot something, those posts below are all the drawings I did. I’d like to thank everybody for participating in such a silly contest, and for being patient while I drew.
I’d like to thank everybody who follows me, or liked the pictures, or reblogged them. I read as much as I can, and I like when the same names come up in my feed. I’m not sure why you guys comment in tags instead of just writing it on the reblog, but I am old and don’t necessarily know the ways of tumblr.
I’d like to thank Mike and Bryan and Joaquim and Lauren for signing everything, and also for being so nice to work with.
Which sort of brings me to a sort of announcement that many of you could probably figure out on your own: I’m no longer working on Korra. Hardly anybody here in Burbank is- they’re finishing up the last stuff on the last chunk of episodes, but my part is over, and it’s mostly up to Mike, Bryan, and the animation geniuses at Studio Mir from here on out. I had a great time working on the show, met some wonderful people, and learned a ton about art and animation.
I’m currently working on another Nickelodeon show called Bad Seeds, which will be out early next year and is about as different from Korra as you could possibly get and still be a TV show. I’m having a great time, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the show comes out.
However, that means that my Korra-related posts will probably be tapering off. I’ll still be here to answer questions, and I’m excited about watching you guys watch Books 3 and 4, but I’ll probably be drawing less Korra fanart. I will understand if most of you unfollow me. We’ve had a good run.
Yeah, I can’t believe somebody’s FAVORITE character IN THE WHOLE SHOW was saikhan either, but I said name your favorite character and I’ll draw it and here we are.
I put this one off for a looong time, but it ended up being pretty fun to draw him looking very serious at a desk.
I hope you enjoy it, saikhantheloyal.
I tried to make it look as though Varrick were posing for a very lordly portrait. I’m still not completely happy with the color and lighting in this one, but so it goes. If anybody wants to try re-coloring it, I won’t be offended.
I started to clean this one up, then decided I liked the sketchy quality of it too much to finish. This time it wasn’t laziness, I promise.
One person requested old Aang, then never responded to my requests for an email to send it to, so I guess he doesn’t get it. Puffthejiggly, if you’re out there, send me your email and I’ll send you the signed copy I have for you.
Once again, it’s very windy.
Okay, I tried some element/lighting effects, and I guess it’s okay. I JUST NOTICED: I flopped his image and applied effects to make his reflection, then redrew his hand later and forgot to change the reflection hand. So… it’s, uh… actually different dimension Mako down there, not his reflection.
I had a really hard time getting up the energy to draw Jinora, for some reason. I tried a couple of times to make her all spirity, etc., but it wasn’t fun. So I tried this probably-not-accurate martial artsy pose, and then I enjoyed it a lot more. I decided to leave it sketchy because I liked that look rather than the cleaner look of the other drawings. AND ALSO BECAUSE I AM LAZY FINE YOU GOT ME
A lot of people requested Iroh. I didn’t realize until later that some of them may have been talking about Uncle Iroh instead of this dashing general, but whatever. They got AN Iroh.
This was, I think, the first drawing I completed, and I’m happy that he doesn’t just look like Mako, as he did every other time I tried to draw him.
